As providers of a service that relies heavily on test data, we have a rigorous quality control program that includes:
- Establishing standards and ongoing training — ever since we pioneered independent testing and balancing services, Engineered Air Balance Co., Inc. has been the industry leader in establishing standards. The first firm to copyright our in-house procedures manual, we actively involved our project managers in developing the material. Monthly training sessions on technical and safety topics help us maintain consistency in our field work and documentation.
- Test labs — our in-house labs in Dallas and Houston contain orifices certified to NIST calibration. Sheltered instruments are used for calibration at four operating points. As part of the contractor submittal process, we test terminal devices for control fidelity, damper leakage and casing leakage. We test and track fume hood sash control, variable volume components and static pressure control. If correction factors for diffusers or grilles cannot be obtained in the field, we can test them in our lab. Our Houston facility tests components by trending air flow in real time. In response to requests from engineers and owners, we developed new test procedures for the specialized control systems used in medical and research laboratories and have amassed test data on multiple manufacturers’ systems.
- Instrumentation — established procedures assure that all the instruments used in testing are properly controlled and calibrated, and adjusted regularly to maintain accuracy. All test equipment is verified for calibration and compliance with manufacturers’ recommendations, and we keep records on file of instrument maintenance and calibration activities.
