Engineering Research Facility

The Engineering Research Building is approximately 240,000 sq. ft. of office and laboratory space. The facility is divided into 3 buildings. Building A is 5 floors of office and meeting space. Building B is 6 floors of office, meeting, faculty break areas, lecture, light laboratory and mail room. Building C is 4 floors of wet lab space for long-term research projects. Buildings A & B are served by parallel fan wall air handling units, single-duct VAV terminal boxes with HW re-heat. Stairwells and Elevator shafts are served by pressurization fans during emergency conditions. Building C is served by 100% outside air parallel fan wall air handling units, single-duct VAV terminal boxes with HW re-heat. The lab exhaust fans serve the general labs, chemical fume hoods and bio-safety cabinets utilizing single-duct exhaust air valves providing constant lab supply to exhaust volumetric flow tracking.

Engineered Air Balance Co., Inc. (EAB) along with Purdy-McGuire, Inc. facilitated the entire LEED Fundamental Commissioning process for the HVAC, domestic heating water and lighting controls. We witnessed the ductwork pressure testing, air handling unit leakage and deflection testing and performed the terminal box leakage testing. We tested and balanced the HVAC, chilled, heating, process, tepid and domestic water systems. We performed the review of start-up documentation, developed and performed pre-functional control sequence verification (PFT’s) and verified calibration of all sensors associated with the systems tested and balanced. We also verified each sensor point on the graphics pages from the field to the front end BMS monitoring graphics pages (point-to-point).

The Memorial Student Center plays a unique and important role at Texas A&M University. The center is first, a cherished memorial dedicated to honor fallen “Aggie” soldiers and second, a center of student activities on the College Station campus.
