From Fundamentals to Advanced Mastery: How the EAB Training Center Ensures No Student is Left Behind in Electrical Commissioning
EAB Training Center develops courses for students with a broad range of education. Consequently, the courses start from base principals to ensure no one is left behind as the training progresses to more advanced concepts. A good example of the training progression is the circuit breaker and selective coordination sessions included in the Electrical Commissioning class.
Students are taught the operation of a thermal magnetic circuit breaker and a solid-state circuit breaker including hands on racking exercise of a low voltage power circuit breaker (LVPCB). Students develop a time current curve for a solid-state circuit breaker to ensure understanding of instantaneous pickup, short time pickup, long time pickup, short time delay and longtime delay.
After learning circuit breaker characteristics, students review a selective coordination study and the derivation of the circuit breaker trip unit settings that commissioning agents must verify. Students are given the opportunity to input the trip unit settings on a LVPCB and verify operation using primary injection power.
Even if you do not have an electrical background, consider attending the EAB Commissioning Electrical Power Systems class for a fundamental understanding of electrical circuit protection and selective coordination.
