Advanced Air & Water Systems Course

TAB Advanced Air & Water Systems

The TAB Advanced Air & Water Systems course teaches Total System Balancing of specialty systems a TAB professional must know to pass the AABC Test and Balance Engineer’s (TBE) Exam. The course is an optimal mix of classroom instruction, practical training, and problem-solving challenges. Classroom instruction is an essential component of the course, as it provides an understanding of underfloor air distribution (UFAD), psychrometrics, smoke control testing, domestic hot water balancing, energy recovery, laboratory HVAC, healthcare HVAC, chilled beams, humidifiers, steam fundamentals, vibration testing, cooling tower capacity testing, chilled water systems, and heating systems. Students apply the classroom instruction with practical training using EAB’s Training Center which has working demonstrators of most systems including a functioning lab. Problem-solving challenges, in class during practical exercises and assigned in daily homework, help students develop critical thinking and analytical skills which are essential for a senior TAB professional’s success. EAB’s instructors, with decades of industry experience, offer students proficiency in performing Total System Balancing tasks or procedures of complex HVAC systems found in healthcare, research, manufacturing, industrial, and mission critical facilities.

Prerequisites: TAB Fundamentals, TAB Basic Air & Water Systems, and TAB Control Systems Verification courses with a minimum of 8-10 years of TAB experience.
Classroom Instruction Time: 25 Hours
Hands-On Instruction Time: 10 Hours
AABC Continuing Education Credits: 24 Hours
This course develops the following skills:
  • Explain underfloor air distribution (UFAD)

  • Verify smoke control system operation.

  • Balance a single lab system

  • Explain and balance basic healthcare HVAC systems

  • Laboratory and Healthcare Ventilation

  • Domestic hot water recirculation system balancing

  • Analyze and solve complex psychrometric processes

  • Describe advanced central plant testing and control strategies

  • Describe and compute capacity testing calculations for cooling towers

  • Perform TAB for common energy recovery systems.

  • Balance chilled beam air and water

  • State a TAB professional’s steam system procedures

  • Take vibration measurement of HVAC rotating equipment

Prerequisites: TAB Fundamentals, TAB Basic Air & Water Systems, and TAB Control Systems Verification courses with a minimum of 8-10 years of TAB experience.
Classroom Instruction Time: 25 Hours
Hands-On Instruction Time: 10 Hours
