“One thing I always emphasize with my clients is that EAB is a part of their team. When our team signs onto a project, we take ‘extreme ownership’ of the project to ensure that we deliver the best possible product to the Owner. As active leaders, we are consistent in our work across projects.”
– Cooper Smith, CxA
Cooper’s History at EAB
Cooper graduated from Texas Tech University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2015. After interviewing with Justin Garner and Tate Stoneham at a Texas Tech Job Fair, Cooper could tell that the culture of EAB is one that he wanted to be a part of. In the same year, he was hired as a Commissioning Specialist at the Houston office.
In 2018, Cooper started to take more of a leading role on larger projects in the Houston market including projects with Houston Methodist West Hospital, and MD Anderson League City. He was then certified as a Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) from the AABC Commissioning Group (ACG).
In 2019, the San Antonio office’s commissioning division continued to grow, and there was a need at the San Antonio office for Cooper’s talents. Cooper jumped at the opportunity to move to San Antonio and continue working for a “great company that truly cares about family and emphasizes the importance of home and work-life balance.”
Backed with a few years of experience and excellent work, Cooper was promoted to Commissioning Coordinator in 2021. During this time, EAB’s San Antonio Commissioning Team was expanding and adding team members to accommodate the increase in project workload. This resulted in Cooper managing and training new team members while maintaining his project leader role.
Cooper was promoted to Commissioning Project Manager in 2023. He primarily works in the Commercial, Healthcare, Higher Education, and K-12 markets. We are so grateful to work alongside Cooper and for the positive impact he has had at EAB!
Milestone Projects
Starting in 2019, Cooper was the Commissioning Coordinator for Gulf Coast Growth Ventures’ newest petrochemical plant in Corpus Christi, Texas. This project was significant because it was Cooper’s first large project after moving to EAB San Antonio, and it met LEED v4 Enhanced Commissioning requirements.
On a more recent project, Cooper was the Commissioning Coordinator for the new construction of UTSA’s School of Data Science and National Security Collaboration Center. Cooper led EAB’s Commissioning Team and he facilitated the entire LEED Enhanced Commissioning process.
Cooper partnered with UT Health Science Center San Antonio in the addition of a new inpatient facility. This was EAB’s first significantly sized project with UT Health in the San Antonio area.
