Our Involvement in the Founding of the Associated Air Balance Council

In 1961, Walt Lipski, founder and first president of Engineered Air Balance Co., Inc. (EAB), and a small group of engineers began brainstorming how to market independent testing and balancing.  In 1965, they established the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) as the first original test and balance organization. EAB became a charter member and continues to actively participate as leaders in the AABC organization.

Our Long-Standing History with AABC

Working closely with the other founders, Walt served as an AABC Director and assisted in writing the first three editions of the AABC Standards. In 1971 he started a Task Group to cover Testing and Balancing in ASHRAE, evolving in 1973 into Technical Committee 9.7, which Walt chaired for eight years.

Gaylon Richardson, past EAB President, has been the chairman of the National Standards Committee since 1998 to present. Starting in 1998, this committee was dedicated to revising and updating the AABC Standard for Total System Balance and the Sixth Edition was published in 2002. The committee later worked to produce the first AABC Standard to achieve recognition as an approved American National Standard through ANSI which was successfully published as the Seventh Edition in 2016. Today, the committee is currently reviewing the ANSI AABC Standard for Total System Balance to publish a future Eighth Edition. In 2014, Gaylon joined the AABC Board of Directors and became Vice President for the Western Region. He has held positions as Secretary/Treasurer, Executive Vice President and in October 2022, Gaylon was promoted to President of AABC.

EAB believes in serving the HVAC industry by participating on committees for the betterment of the community.

David Harrell, TBE, was the past chairman of the Technician Training Manual Committee which developed the Technician Training Program. He was also a member of the TBE Exam Committee which developed the AABC Test and Balance Engineering Certification exam.

George Teasdale, P.E., TBE, is currently active as the chairman for the Technical Training Manual Corrections Committee which oversees the revising and updating of the AABC Technical Training Manual.

Jared Llewellyn, CCE, RCP-SCF, is an active member of the AABC Fume Hood Certification Committee dedicated to content and organizational development.

Derek Glenn, EAB Training Center Manager, is an active member on the AABC Marketing Committee.

Our Continued Influence

EAB is the nation’s oldest independent testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) firm and has more AABC certified Test and Balance Engineers (TBE) and Technicians (TBT) than any other TAB firm in the nation.

We encourage our team members to actively participate in professional associations by writing technical articles and serving on technical committees. Through these activities, EAB has been influential in establishing and maintaining standards for the testing and balancing industry. Additionally, our team participates in AABC webinars, seminars, and events.
